How SimpleCVBuilder Works

Create a professional, ATS-optimized resume in four simple steps. No design skills required.

What you need before you start

Nothing is required beyond an email address, but a first draft goes much faster with these to hand.

  • Your work history: job titles, employers, towns, and the month and year you started and left each job.
  • Your qualifications, with grades and dates, plus any certificates or training a job asks for.
  • Your current CV or your LinkedIn profile, if you have one, so you can import it rather than type it out.
  • A job advert you want to apply for. It is optional, but it makes the ATS check, tailoring and cover letters far more useful.

  1. Step 1

    Sign Up Free

    Create your account in seconds. No credit card required. Start building immediately.

    You can sign up with your Google or LinkedIn account, or with an email address and a password. If you would rather not keep another password, ask for a magic link and sign in from the email we send.

    Every new account starts on the free plan. We do not ask for a card, and nothing is ever charged unless you choose a paid plan yourself later. Marketing emails are opt-in: the box at sign-up starts unticked.

  2. Step 2

    Choose a Template or Upload Your CV

    Pick from 12 professional templates or upload your existing resume. Our AI auto-matches your content to the best template.

    An account with no CV sees three doors, and each one ends in the editor:

    • Import from LinkedIn walks you through saving your profile with LinkedIn's own "Save to PDF" option on a computer (the phone app does not have it), then dropping that PDF in.
    • Upload your CV takes a PDF or Word (.docx) file of up to 5 MB. We read the text, fill in your sections and suggest a design. The uploaded file is deleted once your CV is filled in.
    • Start from a template opens a blank CV in the design you pick. There is also a link to start from one of our example CVs instead.

  3. Step 3

    Edit with AI Assistance

    Get real-time ATS scores, AI bullet suggestions, and content improvements. See changes instantly as you type.

    Your CV appears as real pages, and you edit it directly on the page: click any line and type. There is no separate form. Changes save automatically about two seconds after you stop typing, and undo and redo cover every edit. Drag sections to reorder them, and use the design panel to change the accent colour, spacing and text size.

    Click into a summary or a bullet and the AI assistant opens beside it with four options: Improve, Recruiter view, Inspire me, or your own instruction. It shows the change before anything is replaced, and you decide whether to keep it. The free plan includes 5 assistant uses a day, 5 ATS checks a day, 3 bullet generations a day and one optimiser run per CV.

    Export Your PDF

    Download a clean, professional PDF in under 3 seconds. No watermarks, even on the free tier.

    The PDF is built from the same pages you edited, so line breaks and page breaks land exactly where the editor showed them. It has no watermark on any plan, and you can set the paper to A4 or US Letter.

    On the free plan each CV includes one free PDF download. After that you can buy a single extra download or upgrade. Pro, the 7-day trial and the 30-day Job Search Pass add unlimited PDFs plus Word (.docx) and plain text downloads.

What the free plan includes, and where Pro starts

You can go from sign-up to a downloaded PDF without paying. The free plan also shows ads in the dashboard and the editor. Pro is a monthly or annual subscription you can cancel any time from Billing in your account; the 7-day trial and the 30-day Job Search Pass, a one-off payment that does not renew, unlock the same features.

After you export

Your CV stays in your account, so you can come back, edit it and download it again whenever a new job comes up. A few things people usually do next:

  • Share a link. You can create a read-only web link to your CV for a recruiter, and see how many times it has been viewed.
  • Tailor it to a job. Paste an advert and you get a match score before and after, the keywords you are missing and a rewrite that only rephrases what is already in your CV. Free accounts get 3 runs a day and one tailored PDF.
  • Track your applications. Mark a job as applied and choose a follow-up reminder by email after 3, 7 or 14 days.
  • Prepare for the interview. Get likely questions tied to the advert and example answers drawn only from your own CV, with a one-page sheet to print.

If you are finished with us, you can delete your account from the settings page. We delete your data within 30 days, as our privacy policy explains.
